Long before the existence of fad diets and late-night ab workout infomercials, there was one voice, confidently preaching about the benefits of eating well and exercising often: Jack LaLanne.
LaLanne, who passed away this weekend at the age of 96, spent over 70 years motivating men and women of all ages to live longer and healthier lives.
As a tribute to his life’s work, here are some memorable quotes from one of the founding fathers of fitness:
- “Remember this: your body is your slave; it works for you.”
- “How do you build up your bank account? By putting something in it every day. Your health account is no different. What I do today, I am wearing tomorrow. If I put inferior foods in my body today, I'm going to be inferior tomorrow, it's that simple.”
- “So many people say, 'I'd like to do this, I'd like to do that.' The mind should control the body. When you move your fingers, when you move your toes, that's done by the mind.”
- “If you haven't exercised for a long time, just start out for a couple of minutes a day. Then work it up a little bit. You'd be surprised at the end of thirty days, how many things you are doing."
- “The only way you get that fat off is to eat less and exercise more.”
- “I don't care how old I live; I just want to be LIVING while I am living!”
No matter what your age or fitness level, Jack’s message is clear and relevant today ““ it’s never too late to start living healthy!
