It’s all about that base, ‘bout that base – all sugar! Sugar is a natural exfoliant, which makes it the perfect starting point for your DIY body scrubs. Then there are the fragrant and functional mix-ins, which all depend on your end goal – whether you need to hydrate skin, smooth and soften it or calm down any flare ups. That’s where your favorite essential oils, some baking supplies and even leftover coffee grounds come into play. Literally, you’ll be playing with food that’s so deliciously aromatic you’ll want to eat it. Try not to, though, because these homemade skin-soothers make for a very sweet gift!

Naturally Hydrating Body Scrub

1 medium-size glass jar
1 cup sugar
¼ cup olive oil
Few drops calming essential oil blend

Rejuvenating Coffee Body Scrub

1 medium-size glass jar
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup jojoba oil
2 capfuls pure vanilla extract
½ cup used coffee grounds (leftover from your morning brew)

Make your scrub:

  1. In glass jar, add ingredients in order listed and stir together until well combined.
  2. Seal tightly and store in a cool, dry place.

Use it: Scoop out about ¼ cup to smooth all over clean, dry skin. Rinse off thoroughly and pat dry.

Give it: These homemade scrubs make a very thoughtful gift for any special person in your life (last-minute Mother’s Day present, perhaps?).
