Do your kids go to a sleep-away summer camp? Did your youngest just move away for college? Are you suddenly a woman free of her tethers, left to her own devices? WOO-HOO! Let’s celebrate!
Don’t spend this precious time scrubbing the grout in your shower or working overtime. There is a multitude of ways to enjoy this extended private time. First, sleep late and then eat nothing but chocolate cake for one entire day.
After you’ve gotten that out of your system, may I suggest walking around naked? Give it some thought – when was the last time you were able to take more than two steps from your shower without grabbing your robe or swaddling yourself like a newborn? Exactly. It might feel awkward at first, but soon you’ll come to revel in the sensuality of being nude. When you embrace your sensuality, you will find you’re far more comfortable with your sexuality, as well.
And on that note, with the kids gone, you’re free to have sex everywhere and anywhere. It’s fine time you got out of the bedroom and made use of every other surface in your house. You can also be as loud as you want, let the headboard bump against the wall and the bed springs creak without concern for the future psychological impact on your children (of which, there isn’t any, but that’s another topic for another time).
Incorporate some couple-focused activities as well, outside of sex, that is. Plan a dinner party with another couple, serving every non-kid friendly food you can think of and using your best china. Spend a day talking to each other without being interrupted by a kid asking for the car keys or twenty bucks, or both. Share ideas for places you’d like to travel, new exercise plans you’d like to try, and what color you’d love to paint the living room. It really doesn’t matter; all that’s important is enjoying each other’s company.
This is your time, whether it’s a week without the kids or you embarking on an entirely new season of your life. Welcome the qualified “me time” with open arms and celebrate you!
