For those who lead busy lives, it’s usually hard to find the time to exercise. However, a new study revealed that squeezing in as little as 15 minutes of physical activity into your daily routine may be enough to provide health benefits.

An observational study in Taiwan uncovered a link between lower mortality rates and moderate intensity exercise. While increased exercise provided more benefits, even as little as 15 minutes was shown to have a positive impact on health over time.

So what can you accomplish in 15 minutes? And how can you fit it into your schedule?

  • Walk, jog or run: In 15 minutes, you can easily take a brisk walk or perhaps even jog a mile, depending on your speed.  If you’re pressed for time, consider walking during your lunch break or accomplishing two tasks at once by jogging with your dog.
  • Go for a ride: Hop on your bike and go for a brisk ride through the neighborhood. If you live close enough to a supermarket or other stores, use your bike for quick errands.
  • Take a TV timeout: Not willing to give up your favorite TV show for a trip to the gym? Get off the couch and get your heart pumping with quick bursts of exercise during each commercial break. Start with pushups, lunges, jump rope and lightweight dumbbell curls ““ the possibilities are endless!
  • Dance: Crank up your favorite music and raise your heart rate with an impromptu dance party. Dancing can be a fun activity for all ages ““ so get the whole family involved.

No matter what exercise you choose or how long you do it, some activity is better than no activity at all. Just remember to get your heart rate elevated and have fun!
