Transitioning your beauty routine to all natural, safe, non-toxic products can take months or even years. While organic face wash and mascara are easier to find these days, some of the more individualized treatments for your particular skin care needs may be harder to come by. One of the biggest beauty challenges I’ve had is finding something to replace the harsh, chemical-based acne treatments. Luckily, with only a tiny bit of research I struck gold; liquid gold, that is.
Manuka honey, a remarkable honey that comes only from Australia and New Zealand and is made purely from the nectar of the Manuka tree, has a wonderful reputation for its ability to soothe, heal and protect skin from minor abrasions, irritations and blemishes. This is because Manuka honey has a uniquely high methylglyoxal content. Because of this property, many people find that Manuka honey is the perfect natural, chemical-free treatment to keep their faces blemish free.
Here is a great starter recipe for those of you wanting to see if Manuka honey works for you too! (This manuka honey mask is recommended as a weekly nighttime treatment to help with minor acne and irritated skin. Always consult your doctor if you have concerns about or a reaction to any treatment.)
Ingredients & tools
1 Tbsp. organic Manuka honey (+10 or higher)
Latex-free gauze
Small flat utensil or makeup spatula
Directions
- Cut gauze to appropriate length strips for your face.
- Paint a thin layer of honey onto each strip and arrange gently on your face (avoiding your eyes).
- Let soaked gauze sit for 30-60 minutes, then rinse with warm water and pat dry.
