Spirulina has been making waves – and not just because of its cool, blue-green hue. While a splash in your smoothies makes for delicious eye candy, spirulina benefits skin health, too. Mixed into this DIY charcoal mask, the nutrient-rich superfood soothes redness and helps smooth out your complexion. Apply it once a week while you soak in a warm bubble bath, and you’ll soon see a tidal shift in your skin tone.

DIY Charcoal Mask With Spirulina

2 Tbsp. pure clay
1 tsp. charcoal powder
1 tsp. spirulina powder
Filtered water
Optional: 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oils for aromatherapy

Post-Mask Toner (optional)
1 tsp. raw apple cider vinegar
1 cotton pad

Directions

  1. In a small glass bowl, mix together mask ingredients until completely blended.
  2. Using your fingertips, apply the mask all over your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Rinse off mask with warm water and a washcloth.
  4. Add vinegar to cotton pad and smooth over clean skin. This post-mask toner helps skin soak up your favorite moisturizer, acne cream or other skin treatment.

Note: If redness occurs, reduce the time you let the mask sit to just 5 minutes. If well-tolerated, you can build up to 10 minutes.
