If you’re struggling with stress, relief may be just a quick sniff away. Aromatherapy, or the practice of using essential plant oils to promote well-being, can have a calming, soothing effect that may help create a stress- and tension-free environment. Here are five of the most popular stress-busting aromatherapy scents:

  1. Lavender. One of the most popular essential oils, lavender has a pleasant, floral aroma and can have a calming and relaxing effect. For this reason, it is used in many bath and beauty products.
  2. Rose. The scent of rose oil is highly recognizable and can have a soothing, relaxing effect on the mood. A little known fact: it takes approximately 60,000 blooms to produce just one ounce of rose oil.
  3. Bergamot. Sometimes called the “sunny oil,” bergamot has a light, citrusy scent that can support a calm mood.
  4. Jasmine. The rich, warm scent of jasmine can promote an overall feeling of relaxation. Jasmine is often blended with various other essential oils, including rose and sandalwood.
  5. Chamomile. A popular ingredient in tea, chamomile is also used as an aromatherapy oil. Its pleasing aroma may promote calm and relaxation.
