“Good habits are just as easy to form as bad habits.” Keri, Our Health Raiser of the Week, is right. A habit is something you pick up over time. All you have to do is make the decision to choose a different habit, one that will benefit your mind, body and spirit. Keri reassures us that it’s okay if creating healthy habits takes time, as long as you’re headed in the right direction. And if you get off track? Keri has a solution…
What does health mean to you?
Health means honoring my body’s needs. It means nourishing with real food and building on my skills through exercise.
What inspired you to start living a healthy life?
After I had my third child, about two years ago, I became sick and tired of being sick and tired. I wanted to feel good and look good. I was damaging myself by not eating right and never exercising. I realized that I wanted to reclaim my youth inside and out, so I could be a good example to my children. From then on, I started making changes and amazing things happened.
What are three things you do to stay healthy?
- I drink plenty of herbal tea and water everyday
- At least a day ahead of time, I prepare all my healthy meals and snacks.
- And, of course, I stay active! My favorite forms of exercise are yoga, pole fitness and weight-lifting.
I’ll add one more thing for kicks: I want to be informed, so I choose to stay open-minded to learning new things.
What is one motivational quote that you live by?
I always say: If you get off track, just make a U-turn. It’s a simple statement, but it really reigns true. Everyone falls off course at some point. The important thing is to always get back in the right direction.
If you were stranded on a desert island, which Vitacost product could you not live without?
That’s tough! I need a lot, but one thing I always have on hand is a Vitacost Probiotics supplement. I take probiotics daily, as do my children!
What advice do you have for someone who is trying to live healthier?
Don’t rely on fast fixes and gimmicks to lose weight or become healthier. Long-term results require a long-term commitment to healthy habits. Contrary to what it seems, good habits are just as easy to form as the bad ones. To help you stay informed, I recommend watching documentaries about food and all things health-related. Trying new things will lead you to what you love most. Once you find the activity you love most, stick with it! And, above all, let yourself be a beginner and never compare someone else’s chapter 10 to your chapter 1.
Is there a role model you look up to?
I admire any person making an effort to prioritize their health!
