Having a headache sure is a pain. The throbbing, pounding, aching feelings always seem to appear right when you’re in the middle of doing something important – no fun!
Next time, tackle that headache head-on with these simple tips to help ease the pain:
1. Peppermint oil. Inhaling the pleasantly minty scent of peppermint is a great way to calm your nerves (if your headache is stress-related) and open your nasal passages (if your headache is sinus-related). Add a drop of peppermint oil to a cup of steaming hot water; inhale the steam or dip a washcloth into the water and apply to face (be careful not to burn your skin).
2. Yoga. When your head is pounding, you may not feel like dragging out your yoga mat, but consider this – certain poses, such as “happy baby” can help your muscles relax and promote healthy circulation throughout the body. To do the “happy baby,” lie on your back, bend your knees and grip the outsides of your feet, positioning your ankles over your knees.
3. Natural remedies. If you don’t want to rely on medicine to get you through your daily skull-crusher, we don’t blame you. Fortunately there are a number of natural remedies for headaches. Garden of Life Immune Balance Sinus is a popular option.
4. Snack. If “eating lunch” didn’t make it on your to-do list today, your headache may be the result of low blood sugar or dehydration. Grab a healthy snack – such as pumpkin seeds and coconut water. Even if you’re not skipping meals, this healthy snack provides your body with magnesium, which may be helpful for headaches.*
