Remember planting seeds in a garden for the first time? It was hard to believe that those hard little objects would one day be transformed into flowers or vegetables. But something that you may not know: Seeds also can be used to enhance your health and weight loss. And we’ve got the skinny on which ones to try.

Seeds for Weight Loss

What’s in those seeds? A basketful of benefits, from healthy fats to fiber to protein. You can use them for snacks, add them to baked goods such as muffins, sprinkle on salads and even add to stir-fry.

Some seeds to try:

Chia: Those chia pets are adorable – and chia seeds are awesome! Chia contains omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, both of which suppress your appetite and curb cravings. Try adding a scoop of Vitacost Chia Seeds to your next smoothie

Hemp: Sometimes called hemp hearts, raw shelled hemp seeds provide you with protein power to support healthy weight loss. Try sprinkling on cereal or add to baked goods such as muffins or brownies.

Pumpkin seeds: You can get half of your daily magensium needs by consuming 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds. Magnesium is an important mineral that plays a part in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. Replace starchy snacks such as potato chips with a handful of Eden Foods organic pumpkin seeds.

Sunflower seeds: High in protein and fiber, sunflower seeds are fabulous for a Do-It-Yourself trail mix. Combine sunflower seeds, carob chips, chopped nuts and dried fruit to take on your next hike, put in a baggy for your purse or have on hand at work. And for something different, try sunflower butter, such as Sungold Foods Sunbutter Organic Sunflower Seed Spread.
