I’ve become a bit of a food snob in recent years, and I’m proud of it! If you’re going to look down your nose at anything, fattening, processed foods with GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and artificial flavors and colors seem like a good thing to be snooty about.
All of this goes out the window at Halloween, though. When I see the supermarkets break out those mega-sized bags of candy corns, the little girl in a princess costume buried deep inside me takes over the indignant foodie and I find myself drooling over all of those sugary goodies that made their way into my plastic orange pumpkin decades ago.
Of course after I’ve eaten more than my fair share of Red Dye #3, I not only have dieter’s remorse over all of the calories, but I also feel like a hypocrite. So much for eating organic!
This is why I’m so excited to have discovered organic candy. Who knew I’d be able to enjoy lollipops, jelly beans, licorice, gummy bears-–even sour gummy worms-–without compromising my snooty foodie standards?
Organic candy passes the picky little kid taste test, too–my 11-year-old and 8-year-old are big fans!
