Is Your Body Lacking “Soul” Food?

by | Updated: October 12th, 2020 | Read time: 2 minutes

The soul must be nourished every day. Don’t seem so surprised. Just like the spirit of the holiday season, the soul thrives on hope and joyfulness. There’s hope for a happy and bright new year, while people around the world are filled with the joy of giving and receiving. Though this should be a completely selfless time, it’s ironically the best chance to revive your spirit. Show yourself some love this winter and your life will feel so much more full!

Is Your Body Lacking "Soul" Food?
Sip on something warm and soothing while taking a moment to reflect. Your soul will instantly shine through!

Be joyful, not jaded

The holidays can leave us with feelings of resentment (why do I get stuck cooking for everyone…every year?), regret (did I really need that extra helping of mashed potatoes?) and remorse (I should’ve taken more time off from work to visit with my family).

JNL tip:  Let it go, girl!  The weight of the world does not rest on your shoulders — even though I’m sure they’re strong enough to hold it. Instead…

  • Get on your yoga mat and meditate, or sit in solitude for a few minutes with a cup of relaxing tea. Whatever time you have, use it to reflect on your blessings.
  • Forgive yourself and anyone else who has caused you pain. This will immediately release a heavy burden, leaving your soul light and bright!

Be better, not bitter

When you set high goals, you have a sense of hope. It’s a hope for something better, fresher, more fulfilling. Of course, once you’ve set these sky-high aspirations, you have to go after them! Challenging ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually is the only way we grow. Ever sit at a stoplight a moment too long? Once you snap out of the daze, you move forward, right? The same goes for your life. You don’t learn anything by sitting at a standstill, and you certainly have nothing to hope for. You have to constantly be moving onward and upward! Need motivation?

JNL tip: Get your mind, body and soul in the right place to jump-start your new-year-new-you journey.

  • Mind: Read a fitness book to get you fired up.
  • Body: Toss the junk in your pantry and fill it with healthy food, so you’re less likely to slip up on your diet.
  • Soul: Keep a blessings journal to reference whenever you’re feeling down. We can always use a reminder of the things we’re most grateful for — it’s like instant oatmeal for your soul.
