Your kids are moving on up! With new subjects, more work load and maybe a tighter schedule, your young ones are going to need to be on their toes this school year. For these super-hero students, be sure to pack them snacks which are jam-packed with super foods (read: super nutrition!). And set an A+ example by eating these snacks yourself and ridding the pantry of any high-calorie, sugary no-nos.
Super snack idea #1: Crunch Master’s Gluten-Free Crackers with hummus. This combo provides the right mix of fiber and protein to keep your kids focused on their school work and not on a growling tummy. What I like about Crunch Master is that they offer a variety of flavors which cater to kids as well as to a more grown-up taste.
Super snack idea #2: Lady bugs on a log, created by spreading Once Again No Salt Almond Butter on celery stalks and topping with dried cranberries. The no-salt feature is important, since we all tend to get more than the recommended sodium in our daily diets. And, cranberries are a super alternative to traditional raisins for their antioxidant compounds, bold red hue and unmatched tartness.
Super snack idea #3: Nut- and seed-based energy bars. Raw Crunch Bars Organic Goji Berries are my absolute favorite pick-me-up for my boys. On-the-go kids will benefit from the omega-3s and 5 grams of protein. Plus, super-food, super-good goji berries have more vitamin C than an orange!
Super snack idea #4: Jennie’s Unsweetened Coconut Macaroons, which have only 70 calories per serving and provide medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are known to provide quick energy as well as to help keep appetites stable. Your kids’ sugar fix will be fulfilled, and you can indulge without compromising your hard-earned six pack.
