What’s hot (and not) in health today? Let’s explore the latest health trends and info.

Hot:

Several nutrients have been making news, including:

L-carnosine. This amino acid does double-duty by also functioning as an antioxidant to defend the body against age-related oxidative   stress.*

Lycopene. Yup, this is the stuff that’s found in tomatoes. It’s also an antioxidant, meaning it may protect healthy cells from free radical damage.*

7-keto ®. It may sound like a casino game, but 7-keto actually occurs naturally in the body when a certain hormone (DHEA) is broken down.   Also known as 3-acetyl-7-oxo-dehydroepiandrosterone (say that five times fast), this compound may help support normal hormone balance.*

Not:

White rice. Have you heard the news? With a higher-than-optimal glycemic index of 26 (meaning a faster, higher blood sugar spike), white rice is out. Instead, make room on your plate for brown rice, which has a moderate glycemic load of 16.

Obsessive moms. There’s a reality show about pretty much everything these days – the latest topic being moms who have strange, unhealthy obsessions – with things like working out for hours a day and dating younger men. Two thumbs way down!
