You know the saying, “Mother knows best” ““ well, these moms have been there, done that, and they’re ready to hook you up with insider info on hottest products in natural health, food and beauty. This week’s topic: Natural Beauty.

I needed to clean out my bathroom cabinet since I had stopped using all the toxic stuff I had amassed before becoming pregnant. I have looked at many sites and found that Vitacost is  among the few offering a selection of different brands and variety that were natural and organic. I got a chance to try out a few for myself.

First up,  Borage Therapy Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15. Everyone needs to wear sunscreen everyday!  My old one was too thick on application and smeared off whenever I touched anything. That is not good. I was surprised at how light the lotion was. It spread evenly on my face and absorbed very quickly. It did not smear or wipe off. I also felt a slight tightening on my skin afterwards. I don’t know if that is an intended effect but I liked it. The borage oil worked wonders on my dry skin which doesn’t like the cold weather (it was still cold up to last week!).

Next I tried the  Honey Girl Organics Face and Eye Cream. I wanted something more substantial for night times so that my skin could recover and replenish while I slept. And I didn’t want loads of chemicals sitting on me for the all those hours either. Honey Girl is unique, it contains five components from bees (yes, there are that many): beeswax, propolis, honey, royal jelly, and bee pollen. The scent is faint and reminiscent of a beauty product you might have found in your grand mother’s vanity. I liked the thick but smooth texture. You don’t need a lot to cover your face.

Third came the  Botanical Skin Works Anti Dandruff Shampoo  and  Conditioner. Everyone has some hang up with his or her hair. Mine is dry scalp and dandruff. I might have these long tresses up a lot, but I am always thinking about if there are flakes showing.. While you may notice there are a lot of ingredients in these products, there are a lot of GOOD ingredients. The peppermint and tea tree components might be low on the list, but their presence is felt strongly in the subtle, fresh scent of these products. The ingredients are also mostly organic and/or Fair Trade. I have never seen that before in hair care products and I am glad to see it!

What other products do you think I need? Which ones would you like to try?
