Must-Haves for a Natural Home

Your home should be your sanctuary, where you retreat to sleep, eat and spend time with the ones you love. You want this space to feel clean but not sterile, comfortable but not crowded with knick-knacks and, above all, you want it to feel like your own. To get that naturally cool vibe, you have to fill your home with naturally good things. From your spice rack to your bathroom sink, you have every opportunity to create a home that speaks your language.

Lucky for you (and me!), Vitacost.com carries all of the products that are kindest on your home, your body and our planet at prices that suit every budget. Here are a few of the natural, eco-friendly, organic and non-GMO items I must have for my home to feel like the perfect home.

Gentle skincare

I treat my skin to all-natural products whenever possible. In this haul, I only ordered one beauty item, which was a refill of my favorite Sibu face cleanser. Clearly, I can’t live without it. But I did stock up on other skin-friendly essentials, like Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Hand Soap in Lemon Verbana and in Honeysuckle.

Free and clear cleaning supplies

Keeping our floors, windows, bathrooms and clothes clean is a huge undertaking, as it is for anyone (especially with animals and a sweaty gym-rat husband). By using safe-on-the-environment cleaning formulas, I feel much better about taking care of these endless chores. The Honest Company makes awesome-scented cleaners, which means I don’t have to breathe in all those toxic, chemically smells. From the Honest Company, I like their dish soap, glass cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner, bathroom cleaner and laundry detergent. For the ultimate versatile cleaner, I’m trying out Ecover Zero, because it’s the perfect non-chlorine alternative to regular bleach.

Natural nutrition

In our house, we have to have food that will satisfy our hunger in the healthiest way possible. Choosing organic options is a great way to make sure we’re eating nutritiously. In this haul, I restocked my spices, pasta, pasta sauce, cooking spray, ketchup, mustard, salsa, oatmeal, almond milk and protein powder. I also try to keep naturally energizing drinks on hand. Coffee tends to give me a headache, so I turn to Hi Ball Energy Water and Guru Lite Energy drinks for afternoon pick-me-ups. They have low or zero calories and don’t have any artificial flavors.

I generally follow a gluten-free diet, but sometimes I splurge. When I know I’m going to have gluten, I take an enzyme beforehand. This helps me not feel as crummy. I keep a bottle of enzymes in my purse, so I’m always prepared.

Our dog has to eat well, too. So we’re getting her Vitality Chicken and Sweet Potato Stew wet dog food. You can actually see chunks of chicken and sweet potato and is free of common allergens, including soy, corn, grains, gluten and artificial junk.
