Go organic

Did you know that all popcorn is non-GMO? While the majority of corn grown in North America is genetically modified, popcorn is a different type of corn that isn’t. To be super sure you’re getting good-for-the planet corn, look for certified organic choices. This is third-party assurance that the corn was grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.

Savor the salt

We need sodium to live—it’s key for regulating blood pressure and fluid balance and supports nerve and muscle function. But too much salt is linked to health issues. So think of salt as a treat, with each grain bringing intensity to the natural flavor of the corn. Sea salt in particular is a full-spectrum mineral complex, delivering not only pure sodium chloride (salt) but also trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Get shaking!

Because microwave popping may introduce chemical compounds from the packaging, and air-popped corn is too dry to hold toppings well, we highly recommend taking the extra time and elbow grease to make your popcorn the old-school way on the stovetop. Maybe it’s the little bit of oil that makes it taste so delicious, or maybe it’s the love and energy you put into it, but this method of popping is special. Don’t forget to add your superfood at the end—fermented Turmeric powder from New Chapter® for brain, heart, and inflammation support.*

Organic Turmeric & Sea Salt Popcorn

Ingredients
1 serving (1/2 tsp.) Fermented Turmeric Booster Powder
1 tsp. fine sea salt
1 tsp. nutritional yeast
3 Tbsp. coconut oil (or any high heat oil: olive oil, organic canola oil, etc.)
1/2 cup organic, non-GMO popcorn

Directions

1. In small bowl, mix first three ingredients together and set aside.

2. In deep, metal pot with lid, heat oil over medium-high heat with three popcorn kernels. When you hear them pop, add remaining organic popcorn and cover. Gently shake pot over the heat back and forth to always keep corn moving inside. Popping will begin after a few minutes.

3. Keep moving pot back and forth over burner, listening for popping to slow down. Hover pot an inch or so over the heat at this point so last kernels can pop, without burning the rest. When popping slows down to every 3 seconds, immediately remove from heat.

4. Pour hot popcorn into large serving bowl. Shake turmeric mixture on top of popcorn and mix together well.
