Safflower Power

Coconut oil and I have a special understanding. I will loyally add it to my baked goods, homemade skincare solutions, even take a little by the spoon on days when I can’t fit it into my cuisine—and it, in turn, will continue to be awesome. But, our relationship has never been monogamous, which is why I’m making room on my countertop for safflower oil. This superfood was just featured on my favorite health TV talk show, and since I’d already liked its light, clear flavor in stir frys, I decided to add it to my collection.

Not in love with safflower oil? Try a smoooth safflower tea, or an easy-to-take safflower supplement.

What’s so great about safflower oil?

The benefits associated with this plant-based oil apparently are so plentiful, I considered hooking up an IV and just pumping it through my veins! (OK, not really, but you get my point.) The doc said safflower is great for heart health and keeping a high energy level.* If you’re dieting and belly fat is the bane of your existence, a safflower supplement, which is a great source of linoleic acid, might be worth tossing into your regimen.*

And just as coconut oil is a supplement, a foodie must-have and an essential for your beauty toolkit, safflower oil is similarly versatile. Some people even use it as an antiperspirant! I’m not sure if I’m willing to go that far in this kind of heat and humidity, though.

Cooking with safflower oil

Safflower oil is amazing for high-heat cooking, so get your wok out! But, it’s pretty brilliant in baked goods, too. Check out this recipe for Clean Apple Cinnamon Muffins!
