Walking through the perfume section of any department store will almost always result in a headache for me. Same goes for wearing most mainstream perfumes. Although I’ve yet to be able to identify the chemical culprit of my sensitivity, I spent many years avoiding perfume and fragrances altogether.

How Many Chemicals Does Your Perfume Contain?

As I gained more knowledge about the 80,000 chemicals in the products currently on the market, I learned to look for cleaner and safer fragrances. While those of us with multiple chemical sensitivities may not be able to utilize the same products, it was always helpful for me to hear from others what worked for them and what didn’t.

One of the things I learned to avoid early on was chemically mimicked fragrances, which, of course, is the main source of fragrance for most perfumes. They also tend to be filled with other sketchy chemicals known to be carcinogens or endocrine disruptors. I don’t know about you, but I’m not about to risk my health to smell like the chemical approximation of gardenias.

Pacifica Island Vanilla PerfumeBut recently I found Pacifica Perfume. I breathed a sigh of relief, literally and figuratively, because Pacifica Perfume uses essential oils as the fragrance for their extensive line of perfumes. Vegan and cruelty-free, it’s also free from parabens and formulated without propylene glycol or phthalates. You can get it in a spray perfume, a solid tin and even in a convenient glass roller vial. And what’s even cooler is they have ten, yes ten, different scents available, so you’re not just stuck with vanilla. Unless you want vanilla, and then you’re all set because that have that one, too!

Safer fragrances are just one more way to reduce the chemical load while still living the life of a modern bombshell. Knock ‘em dead, ladies!
