Q: I already use day and night creams, but during winter, I still feel like my skin needs more moisture. What do you recommend?

Dr. Linda Miles, D.O.M., responds:

When you’re dealing with cold, crisp winter weather and more exposure to wind, dryness tends to be the most common skin affliction. Heated air in homes, cars and workplaces also contribute to dryness because moisture from the skin evaporates into the air.

Additionally, if you are not drinking enough water (we often forget to keep ourselves hydrated in the winter), the body pulls water reserves from the skin, dehydrating skin from the inside.

As you may notice, dry, dehydrated skin can contribute to a dull, lifeless complexion and accentuate the visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

I recommend adding derma e ®‘s Hyaluronic Acid  Rehydrating Serum  to your skincare routine. Nicknamed “Nature’s Sponge” or “Moisture Magnet,” hyaluronic acid hydrates skin in a way that no other ingredient can. This remarkable ingredient has the ability to attract and bind water molecules to skin, keeping collagen hydrated and healthy.

Apply this serum twice a day underneath your day or night crèmes to help restore needed moisture, diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and soften and smooth skin.   This formula also contains antioxidant vitamin C, skin-soothing allantoin and revitalizing panthenol to help leave skin rejuvenated and younger-looking.

To keep skin healthy during the winter, we must modify our skin care routine to fit the season: do not treat skin the same way that it is treated during the summer. Winter calls for more clothing and also for more layers of skin protection. Also, remember to drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet with fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables.

With a little adjustment and special attention, you can keep your skin looking great, no matter what the season.
