We’ve all been told a thing or two that we think is fact but in reality it is a rumor, a myth, a big fat lie. It happens. Your girlfriend hears it from her sister, who was told by a friend who saw it on TV, and it usually goes a little something like this: “So I just heard, you don’t have to wear sunscreen every day!” Yikes. Bad information can take you down a path you don’t want to go down, from bad food recommendations to an hour wasted watching some show your friend recommended. Sometimes fact and fiction just need to be separated.

Here’s a rundown on some of the biggest beauty whoopers out there:
How about hair?
Myth 1: You should wash your hair every day.
Fact: Washing your hair everyday will end up causing natural oils in your scalp to build up, making your hair look greasy. Go figure, right?
Quick Fix: Only wash your hair as needed. If your hair feels oily or looks greasy, then it’s time to wash your strands. Hair stylists usually recommended washing hair every two to three days at most.
Myth 2: Nothing can fix dry hair.
Fact: Dry hair can be caused by many things: excessive heat, styling products, coloring, perming and even UV damage. We tend to be hard on our hair and over time it can look dull, dry and damaged.
Quick Fix: Try an inexpensive, at-home DYI hair mask. Apply coconut oil to damp hair, working the oil through the scalp and strands. Apply enough so the hair is completely coated in oil. Wrap your hair in a shower cap or warm towel and leave on for up to an hour. Rinse, shampoo the scalp well and rinse through the ends, then condition as usual. Your strands will feel silky soft and you can do this treatment every week for best results.
What about nails?
Myth 3: You must clip your cuticles on a regular basis in order to maintain healthy nails.
Fact: Put down the clippers. Your cuticles are the only thing keeping bacteria, debris and germs out of your nail beds. When you clip the cuticles, you’ll expose them to all kinds of bacteria. Plus, clipping is likely cause cuticles to grow back thicker than before.
Quick Fix: Use a good cuticle oil to moisturize and hydrate your cuticles.
Don’t forget the skin.
Myth 4: You don’t need to wear sunscreen on a cloudy day.
Total fiction! We need to wear sun protection every day. Sun damage is the leading factor aging the skin. Most of the time we associate sun damage with hyperpigmentation on sun spots, but sun damage can do so much more damage than we realize. The sun also causes collagen and elastin fibers to break down ultimately leading to wrinkles and sagging skin.
Quick Fix: MyChelle has an array of über-safe, natural sun protectants that will guard against both UVA and UVB rays. Titanium dioxide and clear zinc oxide offer clean, broad-spectrum defense that helps prevent the signs of aging, and research has even shown that zinc oxide can shield against ultraviolet rays as well. Try MyChelle Sun Shield Coconut, which has a lush natural coconut scent. Apply to the neck and décolleté too””areas we often miss.
