Are you traveling during the holidays or planning a winter vacation for you and your pet?  Whether it’s a quick road trip or flying across the country, chances are your pet may feel a bit stressed during travel. Our pets are part of our family, and we want them to have a safe and enjoyable vacation, too! A bit of thoughtful planning will help everyone have a more enjoyable trip. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your next trip with your pet.

Tips for Traveling With Pets

1. Assess your pet’s comfort level

Some pets get excited for car rides, whereas others refuse to even get in the car! If your pet is unfamiliar or hesitant about the car, try taking them on a few shorter rides in the days and weeks ahead of the big trip to help them acclimate, and become more comfortable. It will also help you understand and recognize any other travel quirks they may experience, like car sickness. Be sure to reward them with lots of treats and affirmations for being brave! Always check with your veterinarian to ensure your pet is healthy enough to travel.

2. Keep your pet safe and secure

We know our pets like to roam freely, hang their head out the car window, or even sit on our laps while in the car – but these habits are not safe for them, or you, as the passenger/driver. A carrier, harness, or hitch that attaches to a seatbelt are good ways to prevent your furry friend from injury or jumping out an open car door. Also, make sure your pet is microchipped or wears a collar with identification tags that include your contact information, in case they get lost.

3. Find pet-friendly accommodations and activities

Staying at a pet-friendly hotel or rental home will minimize travel stress for you and your pet. Do your research ahead of time to find accommodations that will suit you and your pet’s needs. Also consider any restrictions or additional fees associated with pets at hotels, and whether they have designated pet areas. Look for dog parks or other pet-friendly locations nearby, where you and your pet can go for some fun and exercise!

4. Pack necessary supplies

Bring along some comforts from home so your pet feels more at ease, no matter where in the world you are. Food, treats, water, blanket, toys and a first aid kit are just a few of the things your pet will likely need for their travel experience. It is also helpful if your pet has their own bag or backpack to securely store all their goodies. Pack ahead of time to ensure you are not rushing around last minute to prepare for your pet (or yourself!).

5. Prepare for stressful emergencies with Bach® Rescue Remedy® Pet

Your pet will experience new adventures during their trip, visit new places, meet new people, and be out of their usual routine – all of which can cause unwanted stress.  Be prepared for any unexpected stressors with Bach Rescue Remedy Pet , a homeopathic stress relief tincture made with Bach® Original Flower Remedies. Its unique blend of five natural flower essences – Rock RoseClematisImpatiensCherry Plum, and Star of Bethlehem – helps gently and safely ease pet mental tension and stress-related behavior.

Administer four drops (one dose) orally or on their food, treats, or water leading up to, during, and after stressful situations. For example, it is best to give your pet the remedy before the travel even starts, to help them remain calm when stressful situations do arise. If you notice them acting stressed or agitated, continue to administer. Pets of all ages, weights, and breeds can take Bach Rescue Remedy Pet, like dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits and even lizards!

Rescue products are not just for pets – they can help adults and children, too. So if planning your next getaway is starting to stress you out, try Bach Rescue Remedy Stress Relief Drops.
