Q: I’m considering a spa facial. Is there anything I should do to prepare? What can I expect to happen there?
MyChelle Dermaceuticals licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy responds:
A day at the spa””ahhh! Not only do you deserve a little pampering and relaxation, but your skin needs special treatment every once in awhile, too. Facials are very beneficial for the look and health of your skin. I recommended getting one a minimum of four times per year.

Start by finding a spa or salon that offers the type of facial you are looking for. There are a variety of treatments””deep-cleansing facials, acne facials, aromatherapy facials and many more””available at many locations to suit your specific needs. Once you know what you want, book your appointment.
Upon arriving at the spa you’ll most likely be asked to fill out a consultation form detailing information about your general health and skin condition. Be prepared to answer these types of questions. Also talk with your esthetician about any topical medications you’re using.
After that, prepare to relax! Most spas have you dress in a robe, lie in a bed and listen to soft sounds. Your skin will be cleansed, exfoliated, masked, extracted and hydrated. You’ll get a relaxing facial massage, and if you’re lucky, maybe even a scalp massage (my favorite)!
Afterward, you may be given post-facial instructions. Be sure to follow them carefully for best results. If you’re not sure about anything, just ask!
If you don’t have the time or resources for a spa or salon facial, look for DIY facial information online. MyChelle offers many high-quality cleansers, exfoliators and other skincare products you can use for an at-home facial””and every day””to keep your skin looking its best.
