I am a firm believer in the 80/20 rule. Most of the time, it’s important to eat clean, fresh, unprocessed foods, drink ample amounts of water and exercise daily. The rest of the time…eh, live a little, my friends. Enjoy new flavors. Get out there and dance. Don’t say no to homemade apple pie. The thing is—if I’m about to go to dinner for some “20%” indulging, I never know what I should do first to ensure I don’t go completely overboard. Sometimes I’ll eat an apple but find that actually makes me hungrier. I was happy to see some advice on “pre-cheat meals” on my favorite health TV show this week. And I’ve got to say—the recipe suggested was downright tasty!
Before you go out for Mexican or order a pizza, try this low-glycemic, fiber-packed concoction. The vinegar/psyllium husk combo is what really kills your pig-out cravings, in my opinon…
Pre-Cheat Meal Elixir (tastes a little like gazpacho if you serve it chilled)
1/3 cup water
Plain pureed tomatoes or 1 cup no salt-added tomato sauce
1 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 tsp. psyllium husk powder
Let me know how it works for you! I had it before a cocktail party and definitely ate less than I think I would have, otherwise!
