2 Festive Holiday Protein Smoothies

The holidays wouldn’t be the same without gingerbread and eggnog. Too bad a cup of the creamy stuff sets you back nearly 350 calories and a whopping 19 grams of fat. Same goes for those grinning, white icing-piped little fellas: nibble just one and you can tack on 200 calories and 8 fat grams to your daily totals. But no need to feel deprived! Sip one of these healthy smoothies instead and get a hefty dose of protein while still enjoying the flavors of your favorite holiday treats.

2 Festive Holiday Protein Smoothies

Eggnog Protein Smoothie

2 ready-to-drink vanilla protein shakes
½ cup egg substitute
2 Tbsp. stevia, or to taste
2 tsp. rum extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
½ tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine protein shakes, egg substitute and stevia. Warm over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Do not bring to a boil!
  2. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla and rum extracts.
  3. Transfer mixture to a heat-resistant container, cover and refrigerate for at least three hours.
  4. Shake before serving, adding dash of cinnamon and nutmeg for garnish if desired.

Gingerbread Protein Smoothie

1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 Tbsp. molasses
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
Pinch ground cloves
1/2 cup water
5-6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
