Summer is here, and you know what that means: fresh fruit is everywhere! Supermarkets, farmers’ markets, roadside stands—they’re all teeming with ripe berries, plump melons and fleshy stone fruits that bring a wealth of nutrition and flavor to your diet. Of all ways to enjoy this season’s bounty, one of the best is blended into an icy-cold, frothy shake or smoothie. Add a scoop of protein powder (or a healthy greens powder) for the perfect way to power up before a workout or replenish and refresh after exercise. Here are two of my favorite recipes.
Watermelon Refresher
Ingredients
1 scoop vegan vanilla protein powder
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1 cup watermelon chunks
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup water
Crushed ice
Directions
In blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.
Piña Colada Protein Shake
Ingredients
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 cup fresh cubed pineapple
1 tsp. shredded coconut
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
Crushed ice
Directions
In blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.
