One of the best condiments at Thanksgiving dinner is the cranberry sauce. It’s tart, sweet, sour and a little bitter, but absolutely delicious–and nutritious! Cranberries pack a big nutritional punch, providing vitamin C, beta-carotene, choline, folate and more. They also contain proanthocyanidins, a type of antioxidant flavonoid that helps protect health. For a special holiday dish, forget canned cranberry sauce. This homemade relish can be made in less than 20 minutes with just three ingredients you probably already have on hand: fresh berries, orange zest and pure maple syrup.

Fresh Cranberry-Orange Relish

It’s easy to add cranberries to your diet. Drink more cranberry juice, enjoy dried cranberries or make a delicious cranberry sauce to use on potatoes, poultry or bread, instead of jam. For a special Thanksgiving dish, spice up your cranberry sauce with a little cranberry-orange relish. It’s super easy to make and delicious!

3-Ingredient Cranberry-Orange Relish

1 pkg. cranberries, rinsed/drained
Juice and zest (reserved) of one orange
1/3-1/2 cup maple syrup

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the cranberries, orange juice and maple syrup and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until cranberries are soft.
  3. Cool and chill relish in the refrigerator.
  4. Serve on sliced turkey or mashed potatoes.
