Overeating or eating the wrong things during the cold months can overburden the liver, the organ in charge of many vital activities, including detoxification. Fortunately, there are several herbs that may offer natural support for liver health.

Milk Thistle. A well-known antioxidant, milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is an herb that has been used to support health for centuries. Its seeds contain a unique flavonoid complex called silymarin–a mixture of flavonolignans, silydianin, silychristine and silybin. Milk thistle helps protect healthy cells from free radical damage and promotes healthy liver function.*

Turmeric. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a plant found in the ginger family. Its root is the source of the orange-yellow spice often used in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Turmeric contains an active component known as curcumin. It has been shown to help maintain a healthy liver even under challenging circumstances.*

Yellow Dock. Yellow dock (Rumex crispus) is an herb native to Europe and parts of Africa. Used traditionally to support liver health, you’ll find it in combination with other herbs in some supplement formulas.*
