An icy-cold, fresh fruit smoothie is the perfect way to cool down after a workout or a summer afternoon spent soaking up the sun. With so many fruits and berries in season now, there’s no shortage of options for sweet variations to sip. Here are a few of my personal favorites””always enhanced with a scoop of vanilla protein powder for a little extra fuel!

Directions
For all smoothies/shakes below, first add a few ice cubes or crushed ice to your blender. Top with remaining ingredients and blend until smooth, pouring in water if needed to adjust the consistency.
Summer Cantaloupe Smoothie
- 1 banana
- 1/4 ripe cantaloupe, seeded and chopped
- 1/2 cup nonfat or low-fat yogurt
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
- 1-1/2 Tbsp. frozen orange juice concentrate
- 2 tsp. honey
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
“Creamsicle” Shake
- 1 cup cold, unflavored coconut water
- 1 cup nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 cup mango chunks (frozen or fresh)
- 3 Tbsp. frozen orange juice concentrate
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Orange-Flax Smoothie
- 2 cups frozen peach slices
- 1 cup carrot juice
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 Tbsp. ground flaxseed (Note: If unaccustomed to flax, reduce to 1 tsp.)
- 1 Tbsp. chopped ginger
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Summer Hawaiian Smoothie
- 1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
- 1/2 cup chopped peeled papaya
- 1/4 cup guava nectar
- 1 Tbsp. lime juice
- 1 tsp. grenadine
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
