Life is sweet. And if you don’t think so, it’s time to get to work. This week’s Health Raiser, Jen, knew that nothing was going to change unless she did. So she started to put in the sweat equity and quickly realized that the transformation wasn’t as hard as she had imagined. In fact, with a great workout buddy for inspiration and some healthy, homemade desserts for reward, Jen hasn’t had any trouble keeping up her good habits. Pretty sweet, right?

What does health mean to you?

Health is a lifestyle, not just a fad with a short lifespan. To be healthy is to find balance in all areas of life. Once you strike that balance, the best version of yourself will shine through.

What inspired you to start living a healthy life?

I was tired of being overweight and sluggish every day. I knew I couldn’t achieve any sort of health goals if I wasn’t putting in the work to get there. So I sought out inspiration everywhere I could find it. One day, I hope to return the favor and provide the same kind of inspiration and support for someone else.

What are three things you do to stay healthy?

  1. Meal prep, meal prep, meal prep! This is probably the most important thing I do to achieve my goals.
  2. I exercise daily, whether it’s taking a long trail walk or hitting the gym.
  3. I surround myself with positive influences that match my health goals.

What is one motivational quote you live by?

I already know what giving up feels like. I want to see what happens if I don’t.”

If you were stranded on a desert island, what Vitacost product could you not live without?

Liquid stevia drops!

What advice do you have for someone who is trying to live healthier?

The hardest thing I had to learn was that results will not happen overnight. It takes about 21 days for something to become a habit. At first, it may feel like a struggle, but I promise it gets easier. Once you see how your body reacts to fresh food and exercise, you become addicted to results and won’t want to stop. We all have cravings and need to indulge sometimes, but I have found that creating healthier versions of treats is more rewarding. After all, healthy eating should be fun so you stick with it!

Is there a role model you look up to?

I admire several people in the fitness industry, like Paige Hathaway and Jen Heward, but I really look up to the person I’m in the gym with every single day. My workout partner is my best friend, and he motivates me even on the days when I’m tired and don’t feel like sticking to my plan. He even pushes me outside of the gym, making me want to work hard at everything I do!
