Confessions of a Former 112-lb. Weakling

Heavily Armed - Deniz Duygulu

There’s no big secret to building muscle. It takes a lot of hard work, serious commitment and the right diet. I wasn’t always heavily armed. But now that I am, I want to share the wealth. When I’m not competing, I’m training others to help them reach their physique, fitness and health goals.

Here are a few more things you should know about me:

  1. Growing up, I was always skinny. I wrestled at 112 pounds, at about 5’9″ tall, all the way through my senior year of high school. I decided to start putting on muscle after that.
  2. I am a full-time personal trainer at a private country club in Boca Raton, Fla., and believe it or not, the average age of my clientele is 70 years old. I’m qualified to train the everyday person who wants to get in shape, or the competitive athlete who wants to take conditioning to the next level. I’m also qualified and educated in training and rehabilitating the elderly.
  3. I take my diet and training regimen very seriously, which allows me to maintain a photo-shoot-ready physique all year ’round. My cheat meals are always planned in advance, and they don’t happen often during my competing season. My typical cheat meal is usually two or three cheeseburgers or an entire large pizza, followed by ice cream. My favorite cheat meal is breakfast the morning after a competition””pancakes, sausage, hash browns, a bagel with cream cheese and a chocolate milk shake. After any cheat meal, I slowly slip in to a food coma and usually get stuck on my couch for several hours.
  4. Just about every week I go through 10 dozen eggs, 12 pounds of chicken breast, 10 pounds of sweet potatoes, 10 pounds of veggies and 14 gallons of water!
  5. Funny fact about me? I have never seen snow. Yup, I’m a south Florida boy, what can I say? I like the beach.
