Soft music, candles and incense–you’ve got the components of a perfect at-home spa day. Just one thing is missing: a soothing, scented bath bomb, of course! Unfortunately, those fragrant fizzies can be rather costly, and picking one up requires fighting through traffic at the mall. Save a few dollars (and your sanity) by creating your own bubbles with baking soda and citric acid. These bath bombs are sweetly scented with lavender tea tree oil and lime zest, with added turmeric to soothe, calm and nourish your skin. While you bask in the luscious, intoxicating fizz, your tension will slowly fade away and you’ll sink into a quiet, peaceful lull. It’s the perfect treat after a stressful week!
DIY Bath Bombs with Turmeric, Tea Tree Oil & Lime
Ingredients
1/8 cup turmeric, ground
1 cup aluminum-free baking soda
½ cup citric acid
½ cup corn starch
2 Tbsp. Epsom salt
2-3 tsp. essential oils (I used lavender tea tree oil)
3 tsp. virgin coconut oil, melted
1 tsp. water, added slowly (using a spray bottle would help)
Zest of 1 lime
Silicon or stainless steel mold
Spray bottle, optional
Directions
- Whisk together turmeric, baking soda, citric acid, corn starch and Epsom salt. Gradually add coconut oil and essential oils and gently mix until well combined. Add half lime zest, saving the other half for later.
- Start slowly spraying mixture with 1 tsp. water. Add only a little at a time to lessen the reaction, keep the mixture intact.
- Mix together with your hands. (Note: Use gloves! Turmeric will lightly stain your hands.) When you can grab a handful and the mixture sticks together without immediately falling apart, it is ready.
- Portion the remaining lemon zest into each mold. Pack the mixture into each mold, pressing down hard.
- Let sit for 1-2 days. Store in an airtight container.
- Add 1-2 bombs to a warm bath. Adding more than 2 might cause staining from the turmeric.
