There are undoubtedly some great eco cleaners out there that feature clean ingredients, but making your own is inexpensive, easy and a lot of fun. And it’s safer for you and your family, with no artificial fragrances, colorants or sulfates.

This DIY recipe is a simple mix of castile soap, washing soda (similar to baking soda, but with a bit more cleaning power) and essential oils. Lemon essential oil not only provides a nice citrus scent, but it’s great at helping cut grease. It’s even considered one of the top antimicrobial essential oils on the planet, making it a natural disinfectant.

The following method creates 16 oz. of great-smelling, grime-fighting dish soap. Pour it into a refillable soap dispenser and pump the magic.
