You are you and you can only be you. Pretending to be someone or something you are not is simply a waste of time and energy. Our Health Raiser of the Week, Nicole, preaches not only the importance of individuality in this world but the health benefits it can bring to your life. Being yourself will free you – physically and mentally. Take it from the girl who dances to the “beet” of her own drum…
What does health mean to you?
Health means celebrating your individuality by finding the right balance of nutrition and exercise, so you can be your most beautiful self every day. It’s about discovering how to optimally fuel your mind and body to be ready for all of life’s adventures!
What inspired you to start living a healthy life?
I used to have a weird fear that I would come down with cancer or a serious illness and have no control over my health. I also used to suffer from skin problems and allergies until I started reading about how to use food as medicine. Once I realized that I really can take control of my body, mind and future through proper nutrition, there was no turning back.
What are three things you do to stay healthy?
- I do yoga or meditate daily. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body.
- I cook a lot of food at home and try to have a “prep night,” so I can easily put together meals throughout the week.
- I don’t keep unhealthy food in the house!
What is one motivational quote that you live by?
“The world needs that something that only you have.” – Marie Forleo
If you were stranded on a desert island, what Vitacost product could you not live without?
That’s a tough one! If you saw my monthly orders, you’d know there are a lot of products I can’t live without. If I had to choose one, though, it would probably be coconut oil. I use it for everything – cooking, making smoothies, as a hair treatment and even as body lotion!
What advice do you have for someone who is trying to live healthier?
Don’t give up just because you stumble. Also, don’t think of your health journey as all or nothing. Try to make one good choice at a time, and remember that every little step counts.
Is there a role model you look up to?
Marie Forleo: She’s living her dream and helping others live theirs. Marie has created such a positive online community for female entrepreneurs that inspires me on a daily basis.
