With few calories, no fat and a rich nutritional profile, edible brown seaweed, or wakame, has become a favorite among the health-conscious for its many beneficial properties. This healthy sea vegetable boasts nutrients like vitamin A, magnesium, iodine and potassium. Sweet and salty, wakame is often used to punch up soups and stews. Give it a try with a simple and refreshing spring seaweed salad. Need more a of kick? Wasabi and garlic powder add quite a bang that makes this bowl of green goodness totally addicting.

Spicy Wakame (Seaweed) Salad Recipe

Spicy Wakame (Seaweed)


2 cups Wakame or dried seaweed (add warm water to soften)
½ – 1 tsp. wasabi powder, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
½ tsp. garlic powder, or more to taste
2 Tbsp. sesame oil
Juice of ½ medium-sized lemon
Toasted sesame seeds


  1. Moisten the seaweed in warm water and combine other ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Once the seaweed is soft, drain any remaining water and add the dressing, coating well.
  3. Enjoy as a salad, snack or add to your favorite dishes.
