Take one calm Super-mom with years of yoga and spiritual training. Add in her teenage daughter, having an especially teenagerish moment, and what do you get? A bloody rampage more painful than four childbirth experiences combined. (And it STILL HURTS.)
Quote of the day:
Yoga gave me the ability to calm down.
–Christy Turlington
Six weeks ago I arrived home at 7:30 am to find my 14-year-old scurrying about frantically trying to pull it all together to leave for school at 7:40, the time we’d agreed upon the night before. I stepped back and allowed her her space while I made breakfast.
Then I crept upstairs at 7:41 and said, “We need to go, Hon. So I can be back in time to take Sagey and Phoenix to school. We need to leave right now.”
She stole a glance at me and then ran into the bathroom to”¦begin blow-drying her hair.
(??!!)
Super-mom lost it, Super-mom style. In one moment, all my yoga and spiritual growth went out the window and I stormed into that bathroom to pull the cord of that blow dryer outta the outlet. But no! That’s not quite what happened. The Universe stepped in and stopped me, dead in my meltdown tracks, to remind me of my purpose on this planet. And not at all subtly.
On my rampage””on my way into the bathroom””I caught my left baby toe on the corner of the armoir we bought in Paris on our honeymoon and had shipped back to the US (a whole blog there in itself) and I gotta tell ya, I been through labor four times and this was about as painful. And that pain didn’t stop. It went on and on and on. Still hurts.
I broke my toe.
But this Super-mom is relentless”“”“at spreading the light and anything that I’m passionate about and I was passionate at this moment””so I hobbled, bloody broken toe and all, into that bathroom and set out what I intended to do. I pulled that plug outta the outlet and said, “We need to leave NOW or your brother and sister will be late! Oh and I broke my toe! Thanks A LOT SISTER!”
To which my wise teacher named Madison said, “That’s the Universe, telling you that you’re on the wrong path. Saying that’s not who you are.”
Touche.
Have the best day ever!
Namaste!
