Vegan Creamy Cacao-Coconut Shake

Who says you need ice cream to make a shake? Sipping down a frothy, chocolaty dessert doesn’t have to involve countless calories or digestive distress—or lingering in line along with a restless crowd of sweets-cravers at the local parlor. With silky-smooth coconut milk, pure cacao powder and a few other all-natural ingredients, you can make your own frosty indulgence that’s dairy free, deliciously smooth and better for you than anything you can order at a fast-food counter.

Vegan Creamy Cacao-Coconut Shake

Creamy Vegan Cacao-Coconut Shake

Makes 1 shake


1 cup coconut milk
2 Tbsp. cacao powder
1 Tbsp. maple syrup or raw honey*
½ Tbsp. coconut oil
2 Tbsp. coconut flakes
½ cup ice

*Note: Using raw honey makes this recipe non-vegan. Use maple syrup for a vegan shake. 


In high-speed blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.

Liana’s tips:

  • Serve topped with additional coconut flakes or cherries.
  • For more chocolate flavor, add additional cacao powder.
  • For sweeter flavor, add additional raw honey or maple syrup.
  • For a creamier texture, add a banana or extra ice.
