Why You Should Choose Hawaiian Turmeric

Who wouldn’t love to get a dream job and move to paradise? That’s exactly what Phil and Linda Green, owners of Kauai Organic Farms, did in 2004. The couple packed up their lives and pursued their dreams of farming in Hawaii. As with all major life events, the move wasn’t without risk. But thanks to their brave venture, turmeric supplements have never been more potent or beneficial.

A Farmer’s Dream Come True

The Greens had visited Kauai a number of times and fell in love with the lush, breathtaking environment and peaceful Hawaiian lifestyle. Though Phil had been doing reforestation work in North Carolina for more than 20 years, they hoped one day to call the beautiful island their home.

Turning Kauai’s paradise into their reality, they purchased an organic farm on the north shore of Hawaii’s Garden Island in 2004, though their knowledge of ginger was limited. Today, over 10 years later, the property spans 45 acres of pure, pristine farmland and produces crops of organic ginger, turmeric and galangal.

Checking on their fields numerous times a day, the Greens enjoy watching the sunset every evening over the crops. They are truly living the dream. “Farming in Hawaii,” Phil Green said, “how lucky am I?”

Organic Farming is the Way to Go

“We enjoy starting a seed and letting it grow, nourishing it and harvesting it,” Phil said.

The rhizomes that are handpicked from the Green’s rich Hawaiian soil are heavy, plump and free of pesticides, herbicides and fumigants thanks to organic and sustainable farming techniques. You won’t find any harmful additives in the soil, plants or water shed at Kauai Organic Farms, a fact that benefits not only consumers, but the farm’s workers and employees. The farm has been certified organic since the mid-1990s.

In addition to the naturally nutrient-rich soil, the Greens work hard to protect the integrity of the soil. They use no-waste crop rotation, which helps to cleanse and restore the soil by maintaining good biological and chemical conditions.

And How About Some Turmeric

A rare crop in North America, turmeric and ginger can only be grown in a few, select places. Hawaii, with its radiant sunshine, abundant rainwater and nutrient-rich soil, is one of them.

Turmeric is what you might call a “super herb.” It’s used in many food products including curry, mustard, baked goods and dairy goods. A potent substance, turmeric is hailed for its health-promoting effects on the body’s inflammatory system.* This is due to one of its main components, curcumin.

Integrity, sustainability and quality are the reasons MegaFood™ chooses to source the turmeric in its products from Kauai Organic Farms. With similar missions and goals, the two companies have formed a Farm Fresh Partnership to produce turmeric supplements for joints, liver and whole body. MegaFood chooses its ingredients wisely, so they choose farmers like Phil and Linda Green.
