Pan-Fried Teriyaki Glazed Tofu with Rice

Battered tofu

Tofu prep
  1. Drain tofu and press for 15 minutes. Slice into four “steaks” and set aside.
Rice
  1. In pot, bring water to boil. Add rice and salt. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until rice completely absorbs water.
Teriyaki sauce
  1. In saucepot over medium heat, combine tamari, mirin, 2 cups water, cloves, ginger and brown sugar. Simmer roughly 3 minutes or until sugar dissolves. Stir in cornstarch and remaining ¼ cup water until mixture thickens. Remove from heat, cover and set aside.

Pan-fried tofu
  1. In small bowl, combine flour, garlic powder and cornstarch. Sprinkle mixture over sliced tofu until evenly covered. Remove excess.
  2. In frying pan over medium heat, warm avocado oil. Cook tofu slices on each side for roughly 4 minutes or until browned. Transfer tofu to plate and pour on sauce to coat (save leftover sauce).
  3. Serve with white rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
