Summer’s unrelenting heat is a lot for anyone to handle, especially your fur-covered dog. Help your four-legged friend stay cool and refreshed in the warm weather with delicious, frozen treats. Treats you find at your local pet store might be packed with preservatives and questionable ingredients. Luckily, it’s simple to create your own frozen goodies at home, and it’s the best way to know your best friend is eating real, whole food that’s good for her!

Healthy Frozen Treats for Dogs

Unlike baking which requires strict measurements, frozen treats are much more flexible. You can freeze anything you want! Start with at least one liquid ingredient, such as broth or yogurt, and then add any of your pet’s favorite foods. Diced, dog-friendly fruits and vegetables make excellent additions. Mix the ingredients together, using a blender if necessary, and freeze the mixture in an ice cube tray. If you don’t have one or would rather not share yours with a slobber monster, use an egg carton or muffin pan. Mini muffins pans also work well. For mixtures that are thick and stick together, you can just place them in balls on a plate or baking tray in the freezer. The possibilities for healthy, frozen treats your pup will beg for are endless–here are three to get you started:
