Chocolate Turtle Cookies with Caramel Drizzle

We can’t be perfect all the time. Sometimes, the sweet tooth wants what the sweet tooth wants, and all we can do is give in. And really, if you’re going to indulge, you deserve to be 100 percent satisfied. For a sweet treat that will totally deliver in the taste department, put your trust in these chocolate turtle cookies. They’re simple to whip up, and they feature the familiar and irresistible chocolate-caramel-pecan flavor combo.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp. unsweetened natural cocoa powder
1/2 cup Simple Truth Organic Brown Sugar, packed
1/2 cup Simple Truth Organic Sugar
1/2 cup caramel syrup
2 Tbsp. milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup raw pecan pieces, chopped
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 large egg, at room temperature

Directions

  1. In large bowl, lightly mix flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda.
  2. In separate bowl, beat butter with mixer on high speed for one minute. Mix in sugars. Add vanilla and egg and beat again until well combined.
  3. Add dry ingredient mixture to butter-sugar mixture and beat slowly on low until soft dough forms. Add milk and mix on medium speed to form sticky dough. Tightly cover bowl with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and chill in refrigerator for minimum of one hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Remove dough from refrigerator and let sit out for a few minutes.
  5. In small bowl, combine pecans and chocolate chips. Make 1 Tbsp. balls of dough and roll them in the pecan-chocolate mix. Arrange them on lined baking sheets.
  6. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Heat caramel sauce and drizzle over cookies.
