Healthy Snacks to Take to Work When You’re Dieting

Heigh ho, heigh ho,

It’s off to work we go,

Healthy Office Snacking

To nibble and nosh,

On candy, by gosh.

Is it time to seek

A treat that’s sleek?

Whether we justify our office treats as essential for energy or for bribery, most of us deviate from our diets at work. There are the doughnuts awaiting in the coffee area, the inevitable colleague’s birthday party cake, the no-time-to-go-out-to-get-lunch vending machine run at noon for a candy bar…so many temptations!

So what’s the slimming solution? Stock up and keep diet-friendly snacks in your desk. Here are some suggestions:

  • Taking fresh fruit to work is a great idea. But for days when you forget to pack your pear, have dried fruit available. Choose brands with no added sugar, such as Bare Fruit Apple Chips.
  • On the weekend, cut up raw veggies, such as carrots, celery, zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower. Keep in an airtight container and take a bag of raw veggies to work each day. Jazz it up at the office with a handful of crunchy, spicy Vitacost Wasabi Peas.
  • Doughnuts in the lunchroom, a bowl of candy on the receptionist’s desk, and candy bars in the vending machine: Is sugar calling your name? Keep sugar-free candy in your desk, such as Coco Polo 70% Cocoa Chocolate Bar Sweetened with Stevia.
  • If you have a job that routinely requires you to work late, keeping a pizza delivery service on speed dial seems like an easy but fattening solution. What to do instead? Keep instant hearty soup on hand, such as Dr. McDougall’s Low-Sodium Black Bean and Rice Soup Cups.
  • Don’t forget the importance of staying hydrated. For tropical bliss, try Vitacoco Coconut Water in pineapple flavor.
