In recent years, more consumers have become aware of what it means to have celiac disease. There’s also growing awareness of gluten intolerance, wheat sensitivity and related conditions.
But it can still be challenging to determine what you can eat – and what you must avoid. Gluten can lurk in all types of foods, from soups to salad dressings to sorbet. So we’ve developed a shopping list to guide you with tips for different categories.
Breakfast
You don’t have to go grain-free in order to go gluten free. Among the grains you can enjoy: Amaranth and millet, such as Arrowhead Mills Organic Whole Grain Amaranth and Eden Foods Millet.
Add fresh fruit to your grains and put a dollop of yogurt on top for protein to finish off that morning meal.
Lunch
Feeling glum because you can’t have bread or wraps to make a sandwich? Not necessarily true. Delicious options include Ener-G Light Tapioca Loaf and Julian Bakery Wraps. You can even make your own gluten-free bread with a mix from Bob’s Red Mill.
Dinner
Pasta’s off the list when we’re talking about traditional wheat pasta. But it’s very much on the list when you take advantage of gluten-free pastas such as Ancient Harvest and Tinkyada.
Desserts
Cake, cookies and cupcakes are a few of everyone’s favorite things. And in the increasingly expanding world of gluten-free products, they can be yours as well. Try Namaste Gluten-Free Cake Mix, for example. When it comes to cookies, experiment with different flavors from Pamela’s Products. Longing for little cupcakes? Try Glutino Gluten Free Brownie Mix.
