Being parents, we are prone to worry. We worry about safety. We worry about development. We worry about doing enough. And when a kid is going through a too long picky eating phase, we worry about nutrition. There are a whole slew of nutritional supplement products for kids these days and it can be hard to figure out what is necessary and what is just money out of your pocket.

I tend to go minimalist at our house when it comes to supplements. A multi-vitamin every few days, some vitamin D during our long northern winters. My younger child will eat a large variety of foods and particularly loves eggs, cheese, and meats, so I tend to not worry about her intake at all. My three year old son on the other hand, would live off of Rice Chex cereal if given the option. Not even with milk, just dry.

I have occasionally purchased some of those gummy vitamins before, since what kid doesn’t like something that is basically a gummy candy? However, they tend to be rather expensive! Even our local discount store charges a minimum of $14 for a regular sized bottle. So when I was offered to review some o the  Vitacost   Multi-Vitamin Gummies For Kids, I was game.

I must say, I actually do like these kids vitamins. They taste great and the ingredients passed my criteria.

Each Vitacost Multi-Vitamin Gummy for Kids has:

  • Vitamin A (1000 IU 20%)
  • Vitamin C (15 mg 25%)
  • Vitamin D (200 IU 50%)
  • Vitamin E (9 IU 30%)
  • Vitamin B6 (0.5 mg 25%)
  • Folic Acid (100 mcg 25%)
  • Vitamin B12 (1.5 mcg 25%)
  • Biotin (38 mcg 13%)
  • Pantothenic Acid (2.5 mg 25%)
  • Iodine (15 mcg      10%)
  • Zinc (1.3 mg 9%)
  • Choline      (19 mg)

And other ingredients:  Glucose syrup, sucrose, gelatin, choline bitartrate, ascorbic acid, modified corn starch, d-calcium pantothenate, dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate, colors added (black carrot juice concentrate, purple berry concentrate, annatto), natural flavors, zinc sulfate, fractionated coconut oil (containing one or more of the following: carnauba wax, beeswax), citric acid, lactic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride, retinyl acetate, folic acid, biotin, cholecalciferol, potassium iodide and cyanocobalamin.

Did you catch the bolded ones? NO high fructose corn syrup. Just glucose. No artificial colors. Real stuff.    *Note: they have gelatin and annatto. Sorry vegans.*

At $11.49 for the 150 count bottle, they run a bit cheaper than I can get around here and orders of $49 or more get free shipping. There are also nearly always some coupon codes floating around the net for a discount. The Muti-Vitamin Gummies For Kids are also free of several common allergens: Milk, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, and fish. They do contain corn starch though.

Keep in mind you do want to keep them in a cool place because they will melt into a giant blob if you leave them in the sun.

Do your children take vitamins?  Would they enjoy Vitacost’s Gummies for Kids?
