One of the worst, and I mean the worst culprits when it comes to my ability to decide between having a plate of carrots and hummus and having a cupcake is letting myself get too hungry. It’s true! It’s like my level of hunger is inversely proportional to my logical decision making. I’m sure this has something to do with the biological instinct to ingest as many calories as possible as quickly as possible to stave off starvation, but that’s neither here nor there. So what’s a Bombshell to do?

Snacking Smart

The answer to this problem is simple: Eat more often.

I know you’re looking at me and saying that you’re a busy mom and you just don’t have time to eat five times a day, let alone eat healthy foods five times a day, but that’s a lie and we both know it. Fine, I’ll acquiesce a bit. You need something quick, portable, and ready to go so you can grab it as you’re running out of the house, and it needs to keep you full for a long time.

If you’re not the type to carry an apple or an orange in your purse, but still want the nutritional benefits that come with getting the recommended daily servings of fruits and veggies, meet the That’s It bars. Each of these light and tasty bars contains two full servings of fruit, with no added sugar, no preservatives and only 100 calories. How do they keep you full? The secret is in the whole fruit ingredients. Each bar contains three grams of fiber which helps you feel full longer. My favorite flavor is the apple-mango, but if you’ve got a craving for a more intense sweet flavor, give the apple-cherry a try.

Another go-to snack that will keep you from reaching in the candy drawer are raw organic nuts. Raw nuts are full of healthy fats and, even more importantly, high in protein, meaning you will feel more satisfied and full after eating a handful of raw organic almonds. In fact, a quarter cup of almonds has 7 grams of protein–that’s more than some of the protein bars out there on the market. Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, and walnuts are all high-protein nuts. Make yourself a mix of your favorites and throw in a few organic dried golden raisins and cacao nibs and you’ve got a killer trail mix on your hands. Portion your mix into a few reusable containers so they’re ready to go.

Good foods will keep you full and healthy; delicious snacks will keep your metabolism going all day long. Don’t put yourself between a rock and a cupcake.
