Manuka Honey: Bee-lieve in its benefits

Manuka is produced by bees that gather nectar from the Manuka tree and the Kanuka tree, which are indigenous to New Zealand. In the hive, bees add an enzyme (glucose oxidase) that slowly releases hydrogen peroxide and its antibacterial properties.

The final product is dark in color and has a thick consistency. It tends to thin out when shaken or stirred, making Manuka honey a solid choice for blending with baked goods, stirring into DIY beauty treatments or simply taking by the spoonful.
