What are white chia seeds?


White versus black chia seeds—what’s the difference? Where do they come from?


Just like black chia seeds, white chia seeds come from the Salvia hispanica plant, a member of the mint family, native to Mexico and Guatemala. The word chia means “strength” in the Mayan language, and according to folklore, the seeds were prized for their energizing properties.

Green Smoothie with Bee Pollen & Chia

Bee Pollen Green Smoothie in Clear Jar with Mango & Spinach Leaves |

Makes 1-2 cups


1 cup coconut water
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup spinach, loosely packed
1 Tbsp. sunflower seed butter
1 tsp. chia seeds
1 tsp. bee pollen
1 Tbsp. raw honey, optional, for sweetness


  1. In a blender, add coconut water. Add remaining ingredients and blend 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  2. Serve immediately.
