Homemade Apple-Cheddar Bread

Apples and cheese are best friends forever. This easy, autumn-inspired cheese bread recipe combines these two soulmates in a warm matrimony. In under an hour – with no kneading or waiting for dough to rise – you have a fresh, aromatic loaf cooling on your counter. With each bite offering chunks of sweet-tart apple and bits of melted-in sharp cheddar, a thick slice is a tasty step up from an ordinary apple-and-cheese snack – especially when it’s topped with warm honey-butter. What a great addition to your next charcuterie board! Homemade Apple-Cheddar Bread Loaf in White Pan with Knife |

Homemade Apple-Cheddar Bread

  • ½ cup diced dried apples
  • 1 cup very warm milk
  • ½ cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1-1/2 cups unbleached white flour
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/4 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese (divided)
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease 8x4-inch loaf pan.
  2. In medium-sized bowl, soak dried apples in warm milk for 10 minutes.
  3. In large bowl, combine dry ingredients; set aside.
  4. Add eggs to bowl with milk-soaked apples and whisk. Fold in dry ingredients and one cup of cheddar cheese.
  5. Pour batter into loaf pan and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
  6. Bake about 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool 30 minutes before slicing.
