How to Make Your Own Fizzy Bath Bombs

Colorful bath bombs are an easy (and fun!) way to upgrade an ordinary bath. When you add “fizz” to the mix – there’s just no better bath experience! People of all ages will enjoy the eye-pleasing and aromatic experience of these fizzing balls of bliss when they’re dropped in the water. This recipe lets you make your own right at home with just a handful of ingredients. Citric acid – available right here at Vitacost.com – is the secret to creating the fizz!

Customizing your bath bombs

One of the best parts about DIY bath bombs is that they’re entirely customizable. For scented bath bombs, choose essential oils to fit the experience you want. Lavender, for example, will create a relaxing bath. Need to perk up? Go for an energizing essential oil like such as orange or lemon. Looking for muscle or joint pain relief? Add eucalyptus essential oil. Most of the other ingredients are easy to find – and may already be stocked in your pantry! Most importantly, though, you need a mold to shape your bath bombs. If you want the classic ball shape, look for a metal mold designed specifically for making bath bombs. For other creative shapes, try using silicon baking molds (flower shapes, hearts – the possibilities are endless!). This recipe makes about 8 bath bombs, depending on the size and shape of the molds you use. Ready to get started?

Fizzy Bath Bomb Recipe

What you’ll need:

2 cups baking soda 1 cup cornstarch 1 cup Epsom salt 1 cup citric acid 5 Tbsp. almond oil (or olive oil) 10-15 drops of essential oils Coloring pigment (either powder or liquid) 1-½ Tbsp. water

What to do:

1. In medium bowl, whisk together baking soda, cornstarch and Epsom salt (Note: If using powdered color, add that, too.) 2. In small bowl, mix together almond oil, essential oils and water. If using, add a few drops of liquid coloring. 3. Pour liquid ingredients into dry mixture and mix until well combined. 4. Slowly mix in citric acid. (Note: This step is very important as it ensures that the bath bombs will fizz, but not prematurely.) The mixture should resemble wet sand and be able to maintain its shape. 5. Fill molds; let sit for several minutes to set. 6. Remove bath bombs from molds and let dry on baking sheet for 24 hours. Note: Bath bombs can be stored in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
