We select only the finest berries for Spice Islands Whole All Spice. Allspice is so named because its flavor resembles al blend of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
Create a unique all-purpose seasoning by mixing a few Whole Allspice into your pepper grinder along with Spice Islands Black, White and Green Peppercorns. Cracked berries add an intriguing flavor to pork and chicken marinades, beef stew, pot roast and hearty bean soups.
As you might suspect from its name, allspice has a sweet taste that's reminiscent of a number of different spices, including cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Because of its sweetness, it's commonly used in baked goods like spice cakes, dessert breads and cookies. it's also the primary flavor in Jamaican jerk seasoning. In fact, much of our Spice Islands® whole allspice comes from Jamaica.
Many chefs prefer whole allspice because of the more intense flavor and aroma you get by crushing or grinding it just prior to use.
Fun Fact: Used religiously by the Aztecs, all spice was delivered to Spain by Christopher Columbus, who mistakenly believed he had found a new source of black pepper.
Our Whole Allspice is only allspice. Spice Islands® spices and herbs don't contain added sugar, fillers or other ingredients so you get the most authentic flavor every time.
